DENTAL ASSISTANT

Dental Assistants take impressions, perform X-rays, provide patient education, and are considered to be the "right hand" of the Dentist as a chair side assistant for basic and complicated dental procedures.  Other duties include keeping accurate dental records, billing, scheduling appointments, sterilizing dental instruments, setting up the exam rooms, and provide comfort and reassurance to the patient.  The Dental Assistant may choose to specialize in pediatric or orthodontics.

Medical Career & Technical College's  Dental Assistant program is recognized as an approved program with the American Medical Technologists (AMT) allowing its graduates to sit for national certification as an RDA (Registered Dental Assistant). The College is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

When a dentist employees any assistant in Kentucky,  their name must be reported annually to the Kentucky Dentistry Board and the employee is then considered "registered" on the Registry.  This is NOT the same as being credentialed in the field by passing an academic program followed by national certification testing to become a Registered Dental Assistant.
